The Annual Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) Medical Refresher is an NSP requirement,
and training is an integral part of becoming a Ski Patroller at Hidden Valley.

The Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) Training Consists of Both Textbook and "Hands On" Training

Senior Ski Patrol Candidates Study More Advanced OEC Topics and Are Tested Accordingly

Candidate Patrollers and Instructors Reviewing How to Use a SAM Splint in OEC Class

Patrollers Reviewing How to Set Up an Oxygen Bottle at the Annual OEC Patrol Refresher

For Alpine Patrollers, toboggan skills are demonstrated annually before instructors in order to retain transport certification status, and is also an NSP requirement.

In addition to required training, there are many opportunities to participate in other training such as a Sking Enhancement or
Snowboarding Enhancement Seminars (SES), Mountain Travel & Rescue 1 and 2, and the NSP Patroller Education Conference, usually held every
other year. In 2011, it was held at Copper Mountain, Colorado. Photos below are from from SES, Mountain Travel & Rescue 1 and 2 held at
Hidden Valley and the 2011 PEC. Patrollers learn the basics of low angle rescue in MTR1, and camp on the snow in MTR2 and perform mock rescue
scenarios. Eureka search and rescue dogs were used to assist in some of the scenarios.
